Jaguar's XE, XF and F-Pace all use the ZF eight-speed — the lighter 8HP45 on most four-cylinder and rear-drive cars, the 8HP70 on the all-wheel-drive and six- and eight-cylinder ones. One service, priced to which one your car has.

From £399, priced to your car. Get a price first — send the registration and we confirm the gearbox.

Which Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace cars have the ZF 8HP

Jaguar XE2015–2024
Automatic versions (early UK cars were also offered with a manual). 8HP45 or 8HP70; 8HP51 on the later 20d RWD.[1, 2, 3]
Jaguar XF (X260)2015–2024
Rear-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. 8HP45 on rear-drive cars; 8HP70 on all-wheel-drive cars and the XF S.[3, 4]
Jaguar F-Pace2016–2025
Automatic versions with four-, six- and eight-cylinder engines. 8HP45 on the four-cylinder engines; 8HP70 on the 380 hp V6 and the SVR.[3, 5, 6]

Gearbox versions are as published by the car maker, ZF and the sources below. We confirm your car's exact gearbox from its VIN before ordering parts.

What to know about the 8HP in a Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace

  • Jaguar specified two versions: the 8HP70 for all-wheel-drive and the more powerful engines, and the lighter, more compact 8HP45 for rear-drive and four-cylinder cars. They take different pans and filters, so we order by your car's VIN.[4, 6]
  • On the four-cylinder F-Pace, the 8HP45 has a pendulum damper in the torque converter.[6]
  • The earlier XF (X250) is listed with the 8HP for 2013–2015 cars. For an older XF, send us the registration and we will check.[3]

What the service includes

  • Road test with live data before we start and again before handover
  • New sump pan with its built-in filter, ordered by your car's VIN
  • The fluid specified for your gearbox, by part number
  • Dynamic fluid exchange — torque converter, cooler and valve body, not just the pan
  • Level set at the temperature the gearbox calls for, read from live data
  • Adaptations reset, leak check, and the work recorded against your car

Each step is explained on our ZF 8HP gearbox service page. Is the oil really for life? Our guide Is ZF 8HP gearbox oil really lifetime fill?quotes ZF's own figure.

ZF 8HP or ZF 6HP? The six-speed ZF 6HP came before it — for the Jaguar models with the 6HP, see Jaguar XF, XJ and XK. We confirm which one your car has from its VIN.

The Rootes Standard

What you get on every job

Not extras, and not only on the big jobs. This is how every car is looked after at Rootes Motors, from an oil service to a gearbox.

  1. Fixed price in writing before we start

You get a fixed price in writing before any work begins. If we find anything else, we send you photos and a link to approve or decline it — nothing extra is done without your yes.

  2. 12-month warranty on parts we supply

12-month warranty on parts we supply (wear items and consumables excluded), and every job is road-tested and checked before handover.

  3. Covers on, clean overalls, every car

A seat cover, steering-wheel cover and floor mat go into every car before we touch it, and we work in clean overalls — never in a customer's car in dirty clothes.

  4. A warm, dry waiting room with coffee

On a while-you-wait job you sit in a warm, dry waiting room with a coffee — not stood outside in the cold and rain.

  5. Paperless, with every job on record

Booking is paperless. Every job is recorded against your car, and we email you the documents confirming the work completed.

  6. Automatic service and MOT reminders

Every registered customer gets automatic service and MOT reminders by email, so a due date never slips past.

  7. MOT arranged on our street

We arrange your MOT at the DVSA-approved test centre on our street, take the car there and back, and fix anything that fails.

Questions we get asked

Do the XE, XF and F-Pace really have the same gearbox?

The same ZF 8HP family, in two sizes. Jaguar uses the lighter 8HP45 on most four-cylinder and rear-drive cars and the 8HP70 on all-wheel-drive and the more powerful versions. The service is the same; the parts and the fluid quantity differ, which is why we price from your registration.

Jaguar says the gearbox is sealed for life. Should I change the oil?

Yes. ZF's own data sheet for the fluid recommends an oil change after 150,000 km (about 93,000 miles), and sooner with hard use or an unknown history. We recommend 60,000 to 80,000 miles.

My F-Pace has a jerky change at low speed. Is it the gearbox?

It can be fluid and learned values, which a service with an adaptation reset often helps. It can also be something else. We read the gearbox's live data and fault memory before we touch it, and tell you what we find.

How much is a ZF 8HP gearbox service on a Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace?

From £399, priced to your car. The price moves with which 8HP version it has, the pan and filter part and how much has to come off to reach it. Give us your registration and we confirm a fixed price in writing before we start.
