How we handle your data

This is the privacy policy for rootesmotors.co.uk, the website of Rootes Motors, Unit 7 Rootes Works, Tavistock Street, Milton Keynes MK2 2PF.

What we collect

When you use the quote calculator, booking form, or contact form, we collect the information you provide — typically name, email, phone, and vehicle details — so we can respond to your enquiry. When you book online and pay a deposit, payment is handled by Stripe and we never see your card details.

Your vehicle and service records

If you check in, book, or ask us about a car, we keep your contact details (name, email, mobile number) and the details of your vehicle: registration, make, model, year, engine and MOT details, and its VIN. We look the VIN and technical details up from the registration through our parts supplier's trade account. We also keep the history of the work we do on your car: what was done, when, the mileage, and the price.

We use this to service your car properly and to remind you when your MOT or service is due. When you tick the box on our check-in and contact forms you agree to those reminders and follow-ups by email, phone or text. They come from us.

Opting out. Every reminder email has an unsubscribe link. Or tell us by phone, in person, or at shop@rootesmotors.co.uk and we'll stop reminders and follow-up calls. We'll still keep your service history for the period below.

Why we collect it

To respond to enquiries, prepare estimates, manage bookings, and contact you about work we're doing for you. We do not sell your data to anyone. We do not run retargeting advertising.

Analytics and cookies

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) only run if you accept them on the banner the first time you visit. If you reject, no analytics scripts are loaded at all. If you accept, your IP address is anonymised before it reaches Google, and we do not combine analytics data with your personal details. You can change your choice anytime using the panel below.

How long we keep it

Lead and enquiry data is kept for 24 months from your last contact with us. Booking records are kept for 7 years to comply with UK tax record-keeping requirements. Your customer, vehicle and service history is kept for 7 years from your last visit, for the same reason and so we can look after your car.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email shop@rootesmotors.co.uk and we'll respond within 30 days.
