What to know about the 8HP in a Toyota GR Supra
- Toyota lists the gearbox as the 8-speed Sports Automatic 8HP 51, and the 2.0 uses the same eight-speed ZF automatic as the 3.0.[1]
- The Supra shares its platform, its 3.0 straight-six and its eight-speed ZF torque-converter gearbox with the G29 BMW Z4 M40i.[3]
- Since June 2022 the 3.0 can also be had with a six-speed manual, so check which you have — this service is for the automatic.[1]

Questions we get asked
Does a Toyota dealer have to service the Supra's gearbox?
No. It is a ZF 8HP51, the same gearbox as the BMW Z4 M40i, a gearbox family we service on BMWs. We use the fluid specified for your car, by part number, and record the work for your service history.
My Supra is tuned. Should I change the gearbox oil sooner?
Yes. ZF says its oil should be changed sooner than its 150,000 km recommendation under high temperatures and loads, and a tuned engine puts more torque and heat through the gearbox. On a tuned or tracked car we advise a service sooner than our usual 60,000 to 80,000 miles.
Is the 2.0 Supra's gearbox the same as the 3.0's?
Toyota says the 2.0 uses the same eight-speed ZF automatic as the 3.0, so the service is the same.
How much is a ZF 8HP gearbox service on a Toyota GR Supra?
From £399, priced to your car. The price moves with which 8HP version it has, the pan and filter part and how much has to come off to reach it. Give us your registration and we confirm a fixed price in writing before we start.
