We service the Mercedes 7G-Tronic (722.9) seven-speed and 9G-Tronic (725.0) nine-speed automatics in C-, E-, S-Class, SUVs and vans: the correct MB 236 fluid, filter, dynamic fluid exchange and an adaptation reset. From £399, priced to your car.
Mercedes-Benz built the seven-speed 7G-Tronic (gearbox code 722.9) from 2003 and the nine-speed 9G-Tronic (725.0) from 2013. Between them they cover almost every rear- and four-wheel-drive automatic Mercedes of the last twenty years, from the C-Class to the S-Class, the SUVs and the Sprinter and Vito vans. Both are torque-converter automatics, and both rely on the right fluid to change gear smoothly.
The work completed goes into the record we email you, and your next gearbox service is noted against your car.
From £399, priced to your car. Cars and vans, and the two gearboxes, differ in fluid capacity and parts, so we confirm a fixed price in writing from your registration before any work begins.
Front-drive Mercedes dual-clutch gearboxes work on the same principle as a VW Group DSG, though with their own fluid and procedure — our VAG and DSG page explains the principle. For BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover automatics see the ZF 8HP and ZF 6HP, and for everything else, transmission servicing.
Not sure which gearbox your car has? Send us the registration and we will check it for you.
The Rootes Standard
Not extras, and not only on the big jobs. This is how every car is looked after at Rootes Motors, from an oil service to a gearbox.
You get a fixed price in writing before any work begins. If we find anything else, we send you photos and a link to approve or decline it — nothing extra is done without your yes.
12-month warranty on parts we supply (wear items and consumables excluded), and every job is road-tested and checked before handover.
A seat cover, steering-wheel cover and floor mat go into every car before we touch it, and we work in clean overalls — never in a customer's car in dirty clothes.
On a while-you-wait job you sit in a warm, dry waiting room with a coffee — not stood outside in the cold and rain.
Booking is paperless. Every job is recorded against your car, and we email you the documents confirming the work completed.
Every registered customer gets automatic service and MOT reminders by email, so a due date never slips past.
We arrange your MOT at the DVSA-approved test centre on our street, take the car there and back, and fix anything that fails.
FAQ
The 7G-Tronic (722.9) takes fluid to MB 236.14 or MB 236.15 depending on the version, and the 9G-Tronic (725.0) takes MB 236.17. They are not interchangeable. We confirm the right one by part number for your car.
We recommend every 60,000 to 80,000 miles, sooner on vans, cars that tow and anything driven hard. Many of these gearboxes were treated as filled for life, so a car with an unknown history should have it done now.
From £399, priced to your car. Fluid capacity and parts differ between cars and vans and between the two gearboxes. We confirm a fixed price in writing from your registration before we start.
Probably not on its own. On the 722.9 a car stuck in one gear with speed-sensor fault codes usually points to the conductor plate — the electronic plate inside the gearbox that carries the speed sensors. We read the codes and live data first, tell you what we find and quote before any work.
No. Front-wheel-drive A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA automatics from about 2012 use a dual-clutch gearbox, the 7G-DCT or 8G-DCT, and earlier A- and B-Class automatics used a CVT. Each needs its own fluid and procedure — call us with your registration and we will tell you what yours has.
Plan on leaving the car with us for a morning or an afternoon. If you would rather wait, there is a warm, dry waiting room with coffee.
