Which Volvo XC60 and V70 cars have the Aisin automatic

XC60 (first generation)2008–2017
Petrol and diesel; the engine tables show an automatic on some D5 AWD diesels. TF-80SC six-speed; TG-81SC eight-speed.[1]
V70 (third generation)2008–2016
Automatic versions. TF-80SC six-speed; TG-81SC eight-speed (the article also lists a Ford-built MPS6 six-speed).[2]

Gearbox versions are as published by the car maker, ZF and the sources below. We confirm your car's exact gearbox from its VIN before ordering parts.

What to know about the Aisin automatic in a Volvo XC60 and V70

  • The article lists the six-speed as “AW TF-80SC” and the eight-speed as “Aisin TG-81 SC” for the first-generation XC60. It does not pair either to a particular engine or year.[1]
  • The V70 article lists a third gearbox, a Ford MPS6 six-speed, alongside the two Aisin units. If your V70 has that one it is not an Aisin, and we tell you before quoting.[2]

What the service includes

Static service, from £399:

  • Road test with live data before we start and again before handover
  • Pan off and filter renewed where the design allows, with a new seal and bolts where specified
  • The fluid specified for your gearbox code, by part number
  • Level set by the method the gearbox calls for, with the fluid at the specified temperature read from live data
  • Adaptations reset, leak check, and the work recorded against your car

Dynamic fluid exchange, from £799: everything above, plus our machine connected into the cooler circuit to renew the fluid in the torque converter and cooler circuit, not just what drains from the pan. Dynamic exchange prices and booking · How the dynamic exchange works →

The Rootes Standard

What you get on every job

Not extras, and not only on the big jobs. This is how every car is looked after at Rootes Motors, from an oil service to a gearbox.

  1. Fixed price in writing before we start

You get a fixed price in writing before any work begins. If we find anything else, we send you photos and a link to approve or decline it — nothing extra is done without your yes.

  2. 12-month warranty on parts we supply

12-month warranty on parts we supply (wear items and consumables excluded), and every job is road-tested and checked before handover.

  3. Covers on, clean overalls, every car

A seat cover, steering-wheel cover and floor mat go into every car before we touch it, and we work in clean overalls — never in a customer's car in dirty clothes.

  4. A warm, dry waiting room with coffee

On a while-you-wait job you sit in a warm, dry waiting room with a coffee — not stood outside in the cold and rain.

  5. Paperless, with every job on record

Booking is paperless. Every job is recorded against your car, and we email you the documents confirming the work completed.

  6. Automatic service and MOT reminders

Every registered customer gets automatic service and MOT reminders by email, so a due date never slips past.

  7. MOT arranged on our street

We arrange your MOT at the DVSA-approved test centre on our street, take the car there and back, and fix anything that fails.

Questions we get asked

Which gearbox does my Volvo XC60 or V70 have?

The first-generation XC60 lists the Aisin TF-80SC six-speed and TG-81SC eight-speed. The 2008-on V70 lists those two and a Ford-built six-speed. Send us your registration and we confirm it before quoting.

How often should a Volvo automatic gearbox be serviced?

Our own advice is around every 60,000 miles on average, sooner for towing or hard use. Many were sold as filled for life, so with an unknown history it is worth doing now.

Is a dynamic fluid exchange suitable for a Volvo?

These are torque-converter automatics, which is what our machine is designed for. We read the gearbox's live data first and recommend a static service or a dynamic exchange for your car.

How much is a Aisin automatic gearbox service on a Volvo XC60 and V70?

A static service (drain and fill, level set at the correct fluid temperature) is from £399, and a dynamic fluid exchange on our machine is from £799, both priced to your car. The price moves with which Aisin automatic version it has, the pan and filter part and how much has to come off to reach it. Give us your registration and we confirm a fixed price in writing before we start.
