PERFORMANCE & REMAPS
ASK US · VARIES BY JOB
We remap and upgrade cars, and we service and repair modified ones, at our workshop in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. We work on turbocharged Japanese cars, VW Group hot hatches, BMWs, Mercedes and more. The approach is the same as the rest of our work: check the car first, tell you what we will do and what it costs, and do it to a standard we would put our own name to.
More power puts more load on everything. Before we remap a car we read the fault codes and check its condition, including the things a remap will lean on: the clutch, the cooling system, the ignition and the boost system on turbocharged cars. If something is worn or faulty, we tell you, and we fix it before tuning rather than tuning around it. A remap does not fix a fault.
We fit performance parts and service modified cars. Modifications change what a car needs: the oil grade, the spark plugs, how often the service is due and what wears fastest. Tell us what has been changed when you book and we will plan the service around the car you actually have.
We do not remove or disable diesel particulate filters, EGR valves, catalytic converters or AdBlue systems. On a road car that is illegal, it is an MOT failure, and it makes the car worse for everyone around it. If your DPF or EGR is causing problems, we diagnose and repair it instead.
A remap and most performance parts are modifications your insurer needs to know about. If they are not declared, a claim can be refused or the policy cancelled. Tell your insurer before the work is done so you know where you stand. If the car is under a manufacturer or extended warranty, check the terms too, because a remap can affect cover.
Ask us for a price for your car: every job is priced in writing before we start.
The Rootes Standard
Not extras, and not only on the big jobs. This is how every car is looked after at Rootes Motors, from an oil service to a gearbox.
You get a fixed price in writing before any work begins. If we find anything else, we send you photos and a link to approve or decline it — nothing extra is done without your yes.
12-month warranty on parts we supply (wear items and consumables excluded), and every job is road-tested and checked before handover.
A seat cover, steering-wheel cover and floor mat go into every car before we touch it, and we work in clean overalls — never in a customer's car in dirty clothes.
On a while-you-wait job you sit in a warm, dry waiting room with a coffee — not stood outside in the cold and rain.
Booking is paperless. Every job is recorded against your car, and we email you the documents confirming the work completed.
Every registered customer gets automatic service and MOT reminders by email, so a due date never slips past.
We arrange your MOT at the DVSA-approved test centre on our street, take the car there and back, and fix anything that fails.

FAQ
Yes. A remap is a modification, and insurers expect modifications to be declared. If you do not declare one, your insurer may refuse a claim or cancel the policy. Tell them before the work is done so you know whether the premium changes.
It can. A manufacturer or extended warranty may exclude faults it links to a remap. If your car is still under warranty, read the terms first, and ask us before booking.
No. Removing or disabling emissions equipment on a road car is illegal, it fails the MOT, and we do not do it. If your DPF or EGR is giving trouble, we diagnose and repair it instead.
Yes. Modified cars are welcome. Tell us what has been changed when you book, because it can affect the oil, the plugs, the service interval and what we check.
A remap that keeps all the emissions equipment working should not stop a car passing its MOT on its own. What fails cars is missing or disabled emissions equipment, warning lights and smoke, which is why we keep every emissions system in place and fix faults first.
