Many newer cars have a Security Gateway (SGW) — most commonly Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Abarth and Jeep. It locks out diagnostic equipment that isn't authorised, so a garage without access can't reset the service light or clear fault codes after a repair. That's why so many owners get told to go back to the dealer for what should be a simple oil service.
We work on all Security Gateway vehicles, with authorised access (through AutoAuth on Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Abarth and Jeep). On an SGW car we can:

A module fitted to many newer cars — most commonly Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Abarth and Jeep — that blocks diagnostic tools from changing anything on the car unless the tool is authorised. Without authorised access a garage can read some fault codes, but it can't clear them or reset the service indicator.
