Aircon is one of the services most likely to be done badly. Topping up a leaking system is a waste of refrigerant and money. We do it properly: evacuate the old refrigerant, pressure-test the system for leaks, and only then recharge to spec.
Every regas covers: recovery of the old refrigerant, a vacuum-and-leak test, fresh refrigerant to the manufacturer's spec, and a cold-air performance check at the vents. If anything's off we'll tell you before we touch it.
If the system won't hold pressure, we run UV dye or nitrogen pressure testing to find the leak before replacing the refrigerant. Quoted separately so you're not paying for a regas that would just leak away.
If the aircon smells musty on start-up, the evaporator's growing bacteria. An anti-bacterial clean sorts it — £29 as an add-on to any service.

FAQ
Cars built before around 2017 use R134a. Newer cars use R1234yf. R1234yf is more expensive because the refrigerant itself costs more and the equipment to handle it safely is more expensive. We have the kit for both in-house.
Every two to three years is typical. If the aircon's still cold and the cabin smells clean, you don't strictly need to regas — but if it's lukewarm, noisy, or smells musty, that's your cue.
Yes — a straight regas is about an hour. If we find a leak or a failed component, we stop and call you before going any further.
